Reflection 4

THE IMPORTANCE OF USING COLORS IN CREATING INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

As it is known, motivation is very important for learning, and there are many factors that help to foster motivation in the students. The instructional materials are one factor that improves or hinders the motivation in the students because the materials are the tools that the teachers use every day.

If materials are boring and black and white, it is probable that the students will feel demotivated at the time of using those materials. It is better when the materials are in colors, interesting, and call the attention of the students because the motivation gets high; therefore, the students feel the desire to participate and to learn.

The environments or the classroom is part of the materials, and it is also very important, since the way that it is organized will affect the way that students learn. Colors play a very important role in the organization of a classroom, for students will feel motivated when the classroom is well-decorated with colors, even the furniture could be decorated.

It is necessary to pay attention to these details because some teachers do not pay too much attention to the books with no pictures and the unpainted classrooms that they use. If these things were different, the results in the students’ learning would be different, too.

Reflection 3

Teachers need to use many strategies to help students to learn in the best way. The art elements and principles are the ones that form a good drawing or piece of art, as the strategies in education that generate a good learning.

Teachers tend to ‘’point’’ some topics, the ones that are more important because teachers are given with an extensive program. Therefore, they need to adequate those activities and spend some more time on certain topics to give more emphasis to them.

Moreover, teachers can develop speaking activities using ‘’lines’’. Two lines and the students talk with the students in front of them, or three lines and the students make a competition to write a word on the board.

Regarding to shapes and colors, teachers can use certain shape and color for the students to relate them to a word. For example, a circle and the color green for lemon. These technique works really good for the students with visual learning.
When learning vocabulary it is useful to use realia. With realia, students relate the meaning of something with its texture.

Furthermore, teachers can use videos on their classes. These videos are images with movement that also tend to be helpful for the students with a visual learning style.

The space is very important for learning It is the same that the environment. Teachers need to keep the space in the classroom peaceful and relaxed. To achieve this, teacher can decorate their classrooms with charts and pictures and with objects of the students.

The last is value. Value is a way to know the ways students learn to create activities according to their interest and likes. This evaluation is called diagnostic and is made at the beginning of a course.

Reflection 2

Application of gestalt theories in education
Based on the information of Wikipedia.com, I believe the Gestalt Laws that are used in psychology can also fit with education because the way that the brain perceives the things can be an advantage or a disadvantage for learners.

Regarding Similarity, it is an advantage that certain topics are similar or are related to each other because the students can see that they have importance not only in the classroom, but in real life too. Teachers also can relate topics to certain situation for the students to understand their importance.

The proximity law can be used to join topics in education to each other, so that teacher can advance more on their lessons. For example, when teaching the way of asking questions, students can learn to answer at the same lesson.

In addition, the closure law is definitely an advantage, for students do not need to learn grammar perfectly. It is enough that other can understand them. As humans, we always make mistakes, but the most important thing is that we can communicate with people.

The continuation law is very important because the topics that teacher develop need to have a rational sequence. The past tense comes before the present and then the past. If teachers use this sequence, students will get the topics as important because they have a logical order.

In the case of the common fate, the games can play an important role in education. In games, students are in movement and the learning becomes faster and deeper. Then, games are not only to have fun, but also to help the students to internalize the concepts together with the movements.

Finally, the law of simplicity is something teachers need to take into consideration. The use of technical language and the assignment of very complicated tasks should be avoided because it is probable that students do not even remember a word of that activities or even understand. When things are simple, students pay attention and believe on their abilities.
