Application of gestalt theories in education
Based on the information of Wikipedia.com, I believe
the Gestalt Laws that are used in psychology can also fit with education
because the way that the brain perceives the things can be an advantage or a
disadvantage for learners.
Regarding Similarity, it is an advantage that certain
topics are similar or are related to each other because the students can see
that they have importance not only in the classroom, but in real life too. Teachers
also can relate topics to certain situation for the students to understand
their importance.
The proximity law can be used to join topics in
education to each other, so that teacher can advance more on their lessons. For
example, when teaching the way of asking questions, students can learn to
answer at the same lesson.
In addition, the closure law is definitely an
advantage, for students do not need to learn grammar perfectly. It is enough
that other can understand them. As humans, we always make mistakes, but the
most important thing is that we can communicate with people.
The continuation law is very important because the
topics that teacher develop need to have a rational sequence. The past tense
comes before the present and then the past. If teachers use this sequence,
students will get the topics as important because they have a logical order.
In the case of the common fate, the games can play an
important role in education. In games, students are in movement and the
learning becomes faster and deeper. Then, games are not only to have fun, but
also to help the students to internalize the concepts together with the
movements.
Finally, the law of simplicity is something teachers need to take into consideration. The use of technical language and the assignment of very complicated tasks should be avoided because it is probable that students do not even remember a word of that activities or even understand. When things are simple, students pay attention and believe on their abilities.
